Every one of us has dreams, lots of dreams. Buy your favourite car, travel to your favourite place, do the work you love, etc. I understand that there are hiccups on the way to getting what you want in life. Of course, there will be. That’s the part of life. You won’t be getting your dreams fulfilled in a day or two just by sitting on the couch watching Netflix. That is just wishful dreaming.
Let’s cut the crap and get our hands dirty. At the very crux of the problem, i.e. not getting our dreams and desires fulfilled is either of 2 things: Lack of Skill or Lack of Will. Even if you lack one of these, it’s next to impossible to get your dreams fulfilled, the only way out after that is, luck. But from what I understand, the people whose plan to win the game of life is luck, are playing to lose from the beginning. I am hoping you aren’t one of those, so moving on, keeping the luck factor aside. Let’s try to break down each of these aspects individually and see where we reach. With this article, I would like to make you try as well. Let’s make it a bit interesting for you too. Pick a pen and paper, and write down one of your dreams, the one which has been pending for a long time. Just write it out in 1 line.
Lack Of Will
Willingness is a state of being prepared to do something. My friend, you need to be 100% honest here and answer this one question. This question’s answer is not for me, not for your parents or your loved ones, not even your friends. The answer to this question is for you and you alone. And make sure you are 100% honest with yourself about this. Here’s the question, “Am I willing to give whatever it takes, to getting this dream fulfilled?”, the answer to this question will definitely unlock your life’s biggest puzzle. Be crystal clear with yourself. If the answer is “No!” that’s also alright, there’s nothing wrong. Even that helps, it will help you signify that you aren’t 100% ready for that thing yet, which brings up the question of “Why?” And in this journey of life, questions are good. The more questions you ask, the more mysteries you will be unlocking. The right questions will help you understand what is lacking and how to go about it. And you will start asking the right questions to yourself only if you are answering this first question honestly. Here’s the task now, you’ve already written your dream, now it’s time to answer this question – Are you willing to give whatever it takes, for getting this dream of yours fulfilled? – Just think for a couple of mins and write the answer in Yes or No. I’ll tell you how to proceed over this by end of this article. Moving on…
Lack of Skill
The second most important thing to success is the skill, after they will, of course. Once you’ve answered the above question. You’ve said either YES or NO. If your answer is YES, that you’ve got the will, you are ready to go as far as possible. Next, up is, Do you have the skill to take it that far? This is simpler than the previous one. If you have the skill, you’ll definitely be killing it and sooner or later, there’s no one stopping you from getting what you desire. If you don’t have the skill, that’s no problem too. This is the age of the internet, the world is available at your click. Whatever skill you wish to learn, be it as small as making a logo or be it as large as managing finances, each and everything is available online, you just have to run a search on Google and boom! you have a lot of services providing you guidance to learn that skill. So, as per my understanding, lack of skill isn’t the problem.
Dealing with willingness
The only thing stopping you from getting your dreams is the will to go beyond the obvious. If now you’ve decided that you are willing to do whatever it takes, I’ll suggest you a good tip which I’ve started following. Make a routine. Get yourself a fixed schedule and you’ve to push yourself to stick to that schedule. Use a calendar app like Google Calendar and block your time for the gym, for doing work, etc. Also, keep some time for yourself, time to meet friends, keep time for your family. Having a fixed routine inculcates a sense of discipline, it’s your way of training your mind to do a certain job at the given time and once you make this a habit, you’ll be running closer to your dreams. Routine will help you measure your distance from the dream, and once your dream is measurable there’s no stopping you from reaching your goal. As a great person once said, Goals are just dreams that are measurable and have a timeline.
